In this exciting role, you will be part of a team of engineers responsible for drilling engineering and well design aspects for our current technology for in situ production, Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) wells.
You will use your expertise to:
  • Execute scope of work through high quality planning, detailed technical design and strong operating practices for SAGD wells
  • Act as the drilling and technical point-of-contact for interactions with reservoir, geology, production and rig operations
  • Investigate and evaluate new drilling technologies for project implementation
  • Provide well control and emergency planning response expertise
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including asset teams, regulatory, surface land, logistics, completions and operations
  • Ensure regulatory requirements and reporting are met
  • Provide mentorship and technical support to more junior technical staff
  • Project management of drilling programs: quality control, track performance of safety, cost and schedule
  • Actively review Environment Health and Safety (EH&S) guidelines and demonstrate proactive safety-based work ethic

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
  • 10 years of drilling engineering experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • An APEGA membership or eligibility for immediate registration
  • A deep understanding of thermal regulatory requirements and industry recommended practices
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills as well as listening skills
  • Strong initiative, problem solving and proven project management skills
  • Hands on experience with drilling engineering software
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing
Preference for:
  • SAGD/in situ experience
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:
  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • There will be on-call duties to support drilling operations
  • Regular field visits to provide support and technical assistance
