Process Operator (Offsites)

You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure the safety of people, equipment, and the environment according to established refinery practices, procedures and operating guidelines
  • Learn all operating units within the assigned progression at the facility and progress in increasing levels of responsibility at the site while adhering to the refinery’s management systems
  • Work on a crew covering a qualified post within an operating unit
  • Perform preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting to maintain process equipment
  • Monitor the operation and equipment for deviations
  • Report and appropriately flag all issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Monitor and adjust equipment and process variables to maintain a safe and environmentally sound operation and to ensure product quality
  • Maintain housekeeping at a high level to ensure a safe work environment

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A mechanical aptitude to allow hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Successful completion of technical standard safety authority (TSSA) 4A and 4B exams, or environmental technician diploma from an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Two years of experience in a Refinery, Petrochemical or Municipal Waste Water Treatment plant
  • Strong communication skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the proven ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • The capability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia refinery in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway
  • The shift schedule is a 12-hour rotation of days and nights (three on, three off)
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • You will be required to adhere to our clean-shaven policy and perform some heavy lifting, work from heights with the capability of performing in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • You will be subject to a six-month probationary period and represented by the Sarnia employees’ bargaining association (SEBA) upon completion of your probationary period
